A Late Morning (in America) with Ronald Reagan

Lost in Memories

Written by Michael Weller, “A Late Morning (in America) with Ronald Reagan” is a show that takes you on a journey through Ronald Reagan’s life. The show is stage very much like a talk show interview where Reagan is essentially having a conversation with someone else, as he describes his past life events.

Performed entirely in one long monologue, the show relies heavily on design elements to help paint each scene around the performer and bring the stories to life.

The projection design brought pieces of historical images to create each “memory” of Reagan as if he is visualizing his past around him. The screens were made of semi transparent fabric so the performer could walk in and out of the images in an ethereal way.

In between scenes the background images retreated to a slowly evolving cloudy dream state before slowly introducing the next memories. The only moment where there was no images being displayed was the end where the tone shifts to a much more stark setting.
