Sturgeon Point Lighthouse
January 23, 2021
Over the past couple decades I have made my way out to the lighthouses of northeast Michigan many times. Whether it was for stargazing, ghosts, or just a casual hiking activity they have always been a great go to adventure. However, out of all those trips and late night excursions, somehow I have never been out to the Sturgeon Point Lighthouse until this year. Although I will have to return sometime in the summer, it did not disappoint on being one of the best lighthouses around for the late night eerie vibe.
The crisp winter air left the shoreline lethargic as a slurry of ice rattled gently under the shadow of the tower. The surrounding woods, stale with just the faintest creaking from the older growth. No creature stirred, just the faint light flickering on… and off… again… and again… all night, every night, throughout the cold winter, standing alone. Until one day when everything starts to awaken, the birds return, the ice retreats, and all around the lonely tower life begins to resonate once more.
